SUMMARY:Brussels\, 2 July 2026: A Day for the Rights of Nature at the European Parliament
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 2 July 2026\, the Rights for Nature European Citizens’ Initiative comes to Brussels for a day of public action\, political dialogue and movement-building\, just weeks before the official launch of our signature collection. \nWe invite citizens\, partner organisations\, journalists and policymakers to join us for two connected moments: a public visual action in front of the European Parliament\, and a conference inside the Parliament hosted by supporting MEPs. \n12:00–14:00 Public Action on in front of the European Parliament\nWe will gather in front of the European Parliament with a bold visual installation calling on Europe to give nature legal rights. Citizens\, partners and passers-by are invited to step up\, add their voice\, and take part in a moment that turns a European demand into a public image. \nExpect colour\, music\, conversations and the chance to meet the people behind the campaign across more than a dozen countries. Cameras will be rolling\, so come ready to be part of the picture. \nOpen to all. No registration required. Please share the moment with your networks. \n15:30–20:00 Conference in the European Parliament\nThe afternoon moves inside the Parliament for a public conference on what it would take for the European Union to recognise the rights of nature\, and what role citizens can play in protecting the ecosystems they live with. The programme brings together MEPs from across political groups\, legal experts\, campaigners and representatives of ecosystems already granted rights elsewhere in Europe\, including the Mar Menor lagoon in Spain. \nThree panels with audience Q&A: \n\nIs the European Union ready to recognise the rights of nature? The political\, legal and cultural landscape\, from local experiments to legislative proposals.\nEmpowering citizens to represent ecosystems. How rivers\, forests and lagoons can find legal standing\, and how citizens can speak for them.\nFrom rights to reality: building the movement. Campaign strategy\, coalition-building and momentum – what it takes to win a European Citizens’ Initiative.\n\nThe conference closes with a walking reception in front of the room: a chance to meet MEPs\, partners and organisers\, and to talk further over a drink. \nAccess to the European Parliament requires advance registration and a valid ID. \nREGISTER HERE \nWhy this day matters\nThe Rights for Nature ECI is a citizens’ tool to ask the European Union for a Directive granting legal personhood to ecosystems\, and empowering citizens to act as their representatives. Between September 2026 and August 2027\, we aim to collect one million signatures across at least seven member states. \nThe 2 July gathering is the moment we step into Brussels together: visible\, vocal and ready.
